A bountiful harvest of larger and thicker blocks of ice than usual will provide the materials for this year’s Icehotel, detailed plans for which have just been revealed.
Back in March, the ice was harvested and stored ready for this season’s construction, which will open its doors to guests on 11 December. The nearby river Torne gave up some 5,000 tonnes of natural ice, with blocks almost four inches thicker – and more solid – than in previous years.
The Icehotel has just confirmed that these will be used to sculpt 19 uniquely designed and handcrafted suites, including: ‘Elephant in the Room’, a life-size elephant; ‘Labyrinth Saga’, a Russian imperial-inspired theatre set; and the 1970s-inspired ‘Love Capsule’.
Let it snow, let it snow, wait it already has!
