Let it snow, let it snow, wait it already has!

A bountiful harvest of larger and thicker blocks of ice than usual will provide the materials for this year’s Icehotel, detailed plans for which have just been revealed.

Back in March, the ice was harvested and stored ready for this season’s construction, which will open its doors to guests on 11 December. The nearby river Torne gave up some 5,000 tonnes of natural ice, with blocks almost four inches thicker – and more solid – than in previous years.

The Icehotel has just confirmed that these will be used to sculpt 19 uniquely designed and handcrafted suites, including: ‘Elephant in the Room’, a life-size elephant; ‘Labyrinth Saga’, a Russian imperial-inspired theatre set; and the 1970s-inspired ‘Love Capsule’.

Simply Sweden is offering a variety of trips to the ethereal lodgings on its Icehotel page. All Icehotel breaks take place under the Northern Lights corridor and the hotel’s aurora alarms ensure guests will not miss these stunning ribbons of light across the night skies.

Here are just two of Simply Sweden’s Icehotel holidays:

Icehotel - Wilderness Camps features two nights at Icehotel and one night in the wilderness. Guests can choose from a snowmobile transfer to a luxury camp, with outdoor hot tubs, perched on the banks of the Torne River, a back-to-basics husky experience, with a taste of the modern musher’s life, or a night of Sami culture at Reindeer Lodge. From £925pp.

Magical Moments in Lapland includes two nights at Icehotel combined with two nights at Treehotel, a design classic, where guests can book a range of winter activities, such as snowshoeing through the forest, ice-fishing on the Luleå river and Nordic skiing. From £1,450pp.

Simply Sweden designs memory-making holidays to Sweden and Norway, offering ‘luxury in experience’ and encourages guests to explore the authentic landscape and culture of the region.
